Nuubi is an educational technology startup focused on promoting peer-learning through gamification and digital collaboration. I was lucky enough to be able to obtain an internship with Nuubi while they were still in their developmental phase. While completing my six month internship, I was able to work within multiple roles within the company and gather a lot of hands on experience with design systems, gamification research, and desktop application UI design. My biggest task was to design Nuubi's help pages and recent activity screen from sketches to high-mid fi. While my designs still weren't quite ready to be published by the time I left, you can still see the vast majority of my design decisions on display within their working desktop UI.
Nuubi was in its early stages of development and working with a school sponsor to pilot its first public usage. This meant that I had to work within deadlines to create presentable mid-fi screens displaying the key elements of Nuubi's system. At the time of my joining, Nuubi had just begun developing its desktop application after establishing a large portion of its mobile screens. I was tasked with designing the recent activity tab as well as begin ideation for the teacher help pages in order to be presented outside of company with Nuubi sponsors.
From my competitive analysis I was able to create a relatively simple wireframe that portrayed the key elements to many of the industries best activity pages. This wireframe went through multiple iterations before it was able to be converted into a mid-fi.
One of the most important factors to account for within this project was the audience. Nuubi was targeting college age students and their teachers. This means that I needed to provide a familiar feel to the interface. This included very rounded and playful elements that mimicked apps that these students already use on a daily basis.
The main goal for my mid-fi mock ups was to be able to pitch this page and its contents to a sponsor and have them understand its purpose. In order to achieve that I had to make sure I had the majority of elements present within the mid-fi. This included message types, filters, and dropdown menus as they would appear in the final design. The image provided is only one mid-fi that I designed in a series of mid-fi screens to display the whole user journey. These designs were well-received and passed on for polishing as I was finishing my internship.
